What if Physical Therapy could adopt a model similar to that of the dentist. You see the dentist twice a year whether you have pain or not. You get a cleaning and a report upon which you can either continue oral care as is, or make modifications to your routine as recommended. Through that model, your oral health is maintained with lower probability of cavities, root canals, and the like!

Now, I'm not the biggest fan of going to the dentist - but I've got to say, they've nailed the maintenance model!

The Body Scan is an evaluation method I have created in which a person comes into the therapy office for the collection of baseline functional measurements (I'll go into more details below!). From the collected information, that person and myself can talk about whether they are:

A. Super awesome, fantastic, we'll see you back in a year

B. Pretty good with a few fine tuning

C. Could benefit from personal training or physical therapy in order to address a few found deficits

D. Candidate for physical therapy intervention - billable to insurance per meeting criteria of medical necessity and functionally limiting.

Body scan can include all or some of the following components. It's important to note that the more areas found to have difficulties will require more time spent that session, or in follow up sessions.

- Range of Motion  - either arms, or neck, or spine, or legs, or any combination applicable to that person.

- Strength - same as above

- Balance - to include evaluation of interconnection between eyes, ears (vestibular system), and joints/muscles (proprioceptive system)

- Walking - how you walk, fall risk associated with walking challenges

- Functional activities - such as bending, squatting, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, etc
